My Blackberry Wireless Phone Gave Me CPHD (Cellular Phone Hip Disorder)

Excuse me if this seems a little “tongue and cheek”, but the story is actually true.

I would consider myself a reasonably heavy cell phone user coming close to using almost 1,400 minutes per month, which does not even include all of the Verizon to Verizon free cell phone calls, as well as the before and after billing hours calls, which is from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.  I receive about 50+ calls a day and make just as many out.

After literally years of this I discovered that the sound of my cell phone ringing would actually cause my stress level to increase.  Cleverly, I promptly put my phone on vibrate and kept it that way for a couple of years, thus reducing my level of CRS or (Cellular Ring Stress) as I like to call it.

Each night I would finally take off my phone and power it down around 9:00 PM.  However, from the hours of 9:00 PM to midnight, or for that matter any time that I did not have my phone on me; my hip would vibrate as if I had an incoming call.  To the point where I would actually check to see if I had my phone on me.  Somehow I had truly contracted CPHD, which I have named (Cellular Phone Hip Disorder).

Can this just be happening to me?  I don’t think that this is something that you go to the doctor for.  I’m sure you’re probably thinking . . . no . . . a psychiatrist.  He obviously has ‘phone’ issues.

Keep in mind that I have been an avid user of cell phones from their very inception, of course never to the extent that I am using them now.  Are we about to see new medical problems as a result of this technology?  I don’t think that there is a cellular medical board that I can speak to.  If I had brain cancer from my cellular phone – the popular topic in so many articles, perhaps I would have a case.

I have to keep using my cell phone, so what are my choices.  I either have to have put up with CRS or succumb to CPHD.  Technically, there must be a class action suit brewing here in the long term, as everyone is moving towards using their cell phones exclusively and leaving their old ‘fixed to the wall and portable home phones’ behind.

So, am I the only one?  Is there no one else in the hundreds of millions of cell phone users that is experiencing this problem?  What other problems are out there that are just waiting to be noticed by cell phone users?

I am putting together a poll on my website, and I am inviting people to take a quick survey to see if anyone else is experiencing these problems or any other issues.  I will get back to everyone who takes the survey and I will let them know about the results.  So, take the survey and prove me either completely crazy, or . . . maybe there is some substance to this.

Kryptonite = Water To The Blackberry Wireless Phone

OK, so what’s the deal with ‘water’?  Why is this the instantaneous killer for Blackberry’s and all cellular phones alike?

Does this ‘really’ have to happen, or have we just been set up to think so.  Exactly how many 10′s of millions of phones are replaced every year by carriers from people exposing their phones to this highly toxic and dangerous substance we call the dreaded H20?

If you ask me, this seems to be a multi-million dollar business all on its own.

From rain to spilled drinks, swimming pools and unexpected ocean waves, sinks, fountains and unfortunately – all too often – toilets!  Water is the one devastating factor to cell phones.  But, not just the phones; for in this case batteries are included!  They have also been designed shall we say, to fail along with the phone.  Come on Copper Top . . . where are you when we need you now?

At first glance I do understand the poor combination that water plays on electronics.  However, upon further scrutiny don’t you think that just a little plastic seal around the edges and a sealed inner lining between the touch pad and the circuitry would be an impossible task?  A lot of phones have the keyboard built into the screens.  How hard would it be now?

Or is my theory true.  The money made by the carriers off of the insurance and the return of many slightly damp cell phones is just too lucrative to give up.  As they say; there’s no money in the cure, just the medicine.  So keep your insurance, get your replacement (refurbished but used) phone and take it like a man!

Just face it; cell phones weren’t made to last nor were they designed to withstand the real world environment of the average user . . . intentionally . . . hmmm.  So, on that note; what’s with the explode-able-phone when you drop it?  The cover comes off and the battery seems to have its own automatic ejection system.  Could we build just a little bit of a tighter clip?  Why do I need a broom and a dust pan just to pick up my phone from that massive 2 ½ foot suicide fall that it just had as it slipped past my holster clip.  Remington, Smith & Wesson are you listening?

I don’t know just how much the carriers are making off of replacing water damaged phones, but could you just imagine the first manufacturer who brings out a commercial with a scuba diver making a cell phone call at 50 feet under the water?  Frankly, I don’t scuba dive but that’s the phone that I want.  Or a phone that when I drop it doesn’t explode upon impact, it just has built-in software that tells it to say; “oops, I’ve been dropped, I’m down here”, and then automatically calls your wife to tell her that you’re an idiot.

Oh well, as they say; were I king.

So tell me, just how many times have you had your cell phone replaced because of water damage?  We’re doing a survey to find out.  Take the survey;

Blackberry Wireless Phone – A Change Is Coming

A change is coming, but not a new one, just an old one revisited.  Suffice it to say that cell phones aren’t what they use to be, but then again – neither were computers.  So . . . how many similarities can we find?

Computers use to be big and not very functional except for the basics.  Cell phones use to be so big and the only reason you would end the call was because your arm got tired.  And of course these awesome new devices were curiously . . . just phones.

They both got smaller.  Then if you wanted something more Herculean and with more features (computers and cell phones alike) you went out and bought a new one.
Then both computers and cell phones alike became even smaller and thinner than anyone ever thought imaginable.  For Computers the celebrated departure came in the interpretation of the IBM ThinkPad and for cellular users it just had to be the Motorola Razr.
Computers went to the flat screen and then year by year became bigger and bigger.  Hmmm . . . anyone ever heard of the ‘Droid’?

With computers you could add more memory to speed up your device and make it more functional.  Cell phones have followed the same path.  Computers then made the leap – don’t buy a new one, just upgrade your software.  Interesting . . .

I have noticed over the last several months how AT&T was making such a big deal about how their phones could run multiple applications at the same time, whereas the Verizon phones could not.  Suddenly, I get a message from Verizon.  New software is available for me to download that will allow my blackberry wireless phone to run multiple applications simultaneously.

I downloaded it in seconds and voila!  Multiple applications are running on my blackberry wireless phone.  For free by the way Mr. Gates.  This differentiation alone lets me know that Bill is not on the Q.T. running the cellular industry.

Cellular phones are formally running the same successful marketplace strategies originally launched by the computer giants.  Let’s face it, once cell phones moved into the ‘applications’ market, who needs a new phone?  Just like computers, the equipment is fine, I just want the new stuff that is out on the market and available to me.  And the cell phone manufacturers are now delivering it.  The fact is; my phone was fine, it just didn’t run multiple applications on my network like AT&T’s.  So, with just one software download and the problem (if there really was one) was corrected.

Where are we going from here?  Well, if memory serves correctly, and given the current market condition there are a great many ‘free’ applications available for our cell phones, and of course you can buy some as well.  I expect that the ‘free’ ones will soon become the minority and the ‘paid’ versions will be the bulk of what you can purchase.  To boot, expect the prices to start climbing just like with Microsoft.

Blackberry Wireless Phone: Shopping On Line Verses Retail

Well there’s no doubt that both of these options certainly have their venue, but when would you use one over the other? Which is your preferred method to shop?

When you want information about the phone: Let’s take as an example the ‘Pearl’ from the Blackberry Wireless Phone collection. You know nothing about it, you would like to know its features, how it works, what it feels like, etc. An on-line store is just not going to get you the comfort and information that you are looking for. So, obviously you would hop in your car (fighting traffic is optional) and go to a physical retail location.

There you will probably have to wait in line to see someone who may or may not be knowledgeable about the product. However, you will get to see, touch and try out the phone, which will give you the comfort factor that you are looking for.

The downside is simple; the salesperson is not just being a ‘nice person’. They do have better things to do and one of them is to SELL you a phone! Often they don’t care which one you buy as long as you buy something. There are some phones that they make more money on than others, and you can be sure that they’ll be pushing you in that direction. ‘Best interests’ are definitely at heart . . . it’s just not yours.

When you want to actually buy the phone: When you’re in the store you are not going to be able to compare; 20 different stores (that carry that phone), with 20 different rate plans, or 20 different rebates and their options. At a retail location you are going to get only 1 cell phone price, a few different rate plans, and only 1 rebate offer – take it or leave it!

So, if you already know what phone you want to buy, then the Internet is just the way to go. You can compare 100′s (if you really want to make a career out of this) of cell phone prices, service plans, and rebate offers.

On-line retail stores have cell phones that vary from being free to hundreds of dollars. The best part about shopping on-line verses a retail location is that ‘usually’ you don’t have to finance the rebate. In other words, you don’t have to pay for the rebate, fill in the forms (correctly) and then wait 4 to 8 weeks for your rebate to show up.

Of course the proverbial question is; where are the best deals on-line, who is safe to buy from, who has the fastest shipping, best customer service and offers me a money back guarantee?!?!

Keep clicking . . . you’ll find them!

So if you want to go to the retail store, then hats off to you! But, when it’s time to buy, on-line should be your preferred choice.

What do you do; Retail or On-Line?  Take Our Quick Survey!
